The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Working Group (EECWG) invites you to join us as we work to increase energy efficiency 15% per capita by 2020, a target set earlier this year by passage of House Bill 306. Our efforts to meet this goal include a comprehensive website on energy efficiency and conservation, www.akenergyefficiency.org  to better connect Alaskans with information and resources to maximize energy cost savings.

Alaskans face unique energy challenges – challenges that call for unique solutions. As we work to ensure the long term sustainability of all communities, urban and rural, it is important to recognize that small changes through energy efficiency and conservation can have a large impact. In the short term, we can keep money in our pockets by addressing these small changes.

Our goal as a working group is to spearhead this effort and guide our state towards energy savings by providing access to Alaska-specific information and resources through the website.  As we continue to develop this resource, we welcome your feedback. Let us know what further information we could provide to make it a valuable tool for your business, home and school.

Through a recent U.S. Department of Energy grant, our efforts are expanding and will include collection of baseline energy use data, a study of best practices, integration of a more sophisticated data management tool, and updated policy and program recommendations.  For more information on these efforts, we invite you, again, to visit www.akenergyefficiency.org.

Help spread the word about the cost benefits of energy efficiency, as well as the energy efficiency goals lined out in HB 306. We hope you will join us in engaging Alaskans to think about how we can keep money in our pockets by using resources more efficiently.

Through our new website, our collaboration, and your help, we hope to build public awareness and meet the 15% goal by 2020.  For more information about the EECWG’s efforts or for Alaska specific resources on energy efficiency, please visit www.akenergyefficiency.org.

On October 13th,  the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy announced that Alaska was among the four most improved states when considering state energy efficiency initiatives. Alaska climbed eight spots since last year’s rank, now holding the score of 37th out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Alaskans still have a long way to go, but our momentum is picking up- let’s ride it all the way to the #1 spot!  Click here to download the report
