Anchorage Assembly Gets Behind Fire Island

By Mike Ford

Noting the lack of natural gas supplies in the area, the Anchorage Assembly voted to support the Fire Island Wind Project without exception. The body looks to diversify and secure available local energy that will enhance grid system reliability.

With that in mind and realizing that no single solution will solve the Anchorage energy deliverability problem, they took an incremental step Tuesday night. The resolution requests that a purchase power agreement between the Municipal Light and Power and the Fire Island Wind Project go forward.

The subject will be on the agenda next at the April 29Th Assembly meeting.
